How to Play Wordscapes
Swipe between the letters in the wheel to connect them and spell a word. The letters highlight as you drag, and your current word appears at the top of the screen. Lift your finger or release the mouse when you are done to submit.
Your goal is to fill the entire crossword grid. Each blank cell belongs to a word and every time you find one it lights up blue on the grid. The puzzle is complete when every square has been filled.
You can also discover bonus words that do not appear in the crossword. These are real words hiding in the same set of letters and they earn you extra points even though they do not fill any cells on the grid.
Points are based on word length. Three and four letter words earn one point each, five letter words earn three, and any word of six letters or more earns five points. Hunting for the longer words is the fastest way to build your score.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I trace words in Wordscapes?
Press and hold any letter in the wheel, then drag your finger or mouse through the other letters in the order you want them. The path you trace is drawn on screen so you can see your word taking shape. Release when you have finished spelling to submit. If the word is valid it fills in the matching squares on the crossword grid. If it is not recognised simply trace a new path and try something else.
What are bonus words?
Bonus words are real words that can be spelled from the same letters in the wheel but do not appear in the crossword grid. They will not fill any squares but they earn you points and can make a real difference to your score over the course of a game. If you spot something that looks like a valid word, go ahead and try it even if you do not see a place for it on the grid.
How is scoring calculated?
Word length is what determines your score. Three and four letter words are each worth one point, five letter words earn three, and words of six letters or more earn five points each. Both crossword words and bonus words count toward your total. Focusing on longer words whenever you can see them is the most effective way to push your score higher.
Can I play Wordscapes in different languages?
Yes! WordGames.net supports English, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Switch languages from the menu and the entire puzzle, including the letter wheel and crossword grid, is rebuilt for that language. Playing in a second language is a surprisingly effective way to pick up new vocabulary because you are actively searching for words rather than just reading them passively.
About Wordscapes
Wordscapes blends the satisfying crunch of a crossword with the intuitive swipe mechanics of a letter wheel. Instead of typing letters one by one, you trace a path through the wheel and watch the word form in real time. When you find a match, the letters snap into place on the grid above. It is one of those rare games that feels immediately natural from the very first swipe.
On WordGames.net our Wordscapes puzzles are available in English, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. A new puzzle is released every day, and you can also browse the full archive of previous games whenever you want a different challenge. Every puzzle is freshly designed so the word set and grid layout are always unique.
Wordscapes is also genuinely good for your brain. Connecting letters to form words exercises pattern recognition and vocabulary in a way that is light enough to enjoy during a break but engaging enough to keep you coming back. Whether you are here for two minutes or twenty, there is always one more word waiting to be found.
