How to Play Mühle (Nine Mens Morris)

Mühle (Nine Men's Morris) is a two-player strategy game. You play as Black against the computer. Each player has 9 pieces and takes turns placing or moving them across 24 intersections connected by lines.

The goal is to form mills — three of your pieces in a row along any line. Every time you close a mill, you may remove one of your opponent's pieces from the board. Pieces inside a mill cannot be removed unless no other pieces are available.

The game has three phases. In the Placing phase, you take turns putting pieces onto any empty intersection. In the Moving phase, you slide a piece to an adjacent empty spot along a line. In the Flying phase — reached when a player is down to 3 pieces — that player may jump to any empty intersection.

You win by reducing your opponent to fewer than 3 pieces, or by leaving them with no legal moves. Plan ahead: closing a mill is powerful, but setting up a double mill threat is even stronger.
